Job Details:

Responsibilities of the Software Developer Apprentice:

  • To provide IT support to the business through its IT department
  • To support the Software Developer
  • To liaise with and maintain good relationships with clients and suppliers
  • To carry out a range of routine and non-routine administrative tasks efficiently and effectively to support the IT Development and Support teams
  • Participate in programming software developments for the web based client hub and Intranet products using Java and other programming languages and systems
  • Participate in maintaining the web based client hub and Intranet products using Java and other programming languages and systems
  • Liaise with suppliers to log and manage day to day issues to resolution
  • Provide a first point of contact for new users and assist in deploying devices to them
  • Work with the IT team to review user/business system requirements and assist in providing cost effective solutions

Requirements of the Software Developer Apprentice:

  • Consistently delivers accurate work in a timely manner
  • Has an eye for details
  • A team player who is self-motivated and demonstrates a “can do” attitude
  • Puts self in customers’ shoes and responds to their needs
  • Intellectual Ability: A levels (preferably in ICT), 4 GCSEs, grade C or above including English and Maths or equivalent
  • Technical Skills: Able to use MS Office applications and IW operational software; configure, deploy and integrate PCs and laptop devices into the business environment
  • Management Skills: Planning and organising, providing a service and information, supplier relationships
  • Prior Experience: An interest in programming and programming as a hobby
  • Personal Skills: Numerate and literate. Good interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and on telephone)

Programme duration:

13-15 months. Approximately 11% of training takes place in the QA learning centre classroom. 9% is done in the workplace, through online training, face-to-face meetings with your QA Technical Skills Coach, or developing your portfolio. The remaining time will be spent on your workplace activity.
