Claim up to £1,500 when you hire a QA apprentice!

The government is offering up to £1,500 to employers in England recruiting their first apprentice aged 16-24 in the last 12 months*.

QA Apprenticeships can let you know how to claim the grant and help you with the entire process from recruiting your new staff, to securing your £1,500 incentive.

Is my business eligible to claim the £1,500 apprenticeship grant?

You could be eligible if:

  • Your business is based in England and has 49 or fewer employees*
  • Your new apprentice is the first your business has hired (ever), or the first in the last 12 months or longer
  • Your new apprentice is aged 16-24 years
  • Your apprentice is not on the new apprenticeship standard (Trailblazer)

You can claim for up to 5 apprentices per year*.

How do I receive these grants?

  • You will receive your full amount after 3-6 months of the apprenticeship (conditions apply if an apprentice leaves or is dismissed)
  • You will need to sign an agreement committing to the full apprenticeship term, and to paying our minimum recommended apprenticeship wage
  • Your vacancies must be advertised via the National Apprenticeships Service website
  • All grants are paid on a first come, first served basis

New apprenticeship standards

The AGE Grant incentive is only available for employers with apprentices on apprenticeship frameworks. There are separate incentives for apprentices on the new apprenticeship standards (Trailblazers).

Eligibility terms for other locations

Greater Manchester:

  • Eligible with up to 249 employees
  • Can apply for a maximum of 3 grants per year

Leeds:

  • Apply for up to £2,000 grant for apprentices on Information and Communication Technology qualifications
  • All others eligible for £1,200 grant
  • Eligible with up to 249 employees
  • Can apply for maximum of 3 grants per year

Sheffield:

  • Apply for up to £2,000 grant for apprentices on an Information and Communication Technology qualification
  • Apply for up to £1,500 for apprentices on a Digital Marketing qualification
  • Eligible with up to 100 employees
  • Can apply for a maximum of 4 grants per year
