What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a real job, with formal training that will enable you to earn a salary whilst gaining nationally-recognised qualifications and even a degree (all with no student debt)!

As an apprentice, you will be working alongside industry experts, in a real work environment and gain job-specific skills. You won’t be sitting quietly in the background or running around making tea and coffee, you’ll be a valued member of the team. And to make sure of that, we have a team of assessors that will come in to see how you’re getting on in the workplace.

Can anyone do an apprenticeship?

Anyone over the age of 16 can apply for an apprenticeship programme. Apprenticeships count as full-time education so if you are 16 or 17 and keen to start an apprenticeship you don’t have to put your career on hold – you can switch from your school or college course to apprenticeships right away!

The minimum entry criteria for doing an apprenticeship is 5 A-C GCSE’S, however, each programme varies so please check the individual programme pages for exact requirements. But don’t worry if you don’t have these qualifications as you still qualify for our intermediate programmes which will help prepare you for an apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships are on the up and up

Why are apprenticeships such a big deal?

  1. The government has pledged to create 3 million apprenticeship opportunities by 2020 to help develop futures for young people to focus on creating successful careers, not just successful test-takers.

  2. Apprenticeships allow you to progress all the way from GCSE to Degree so you are able to take your career as far as you want whilst remaining debt-free. You will also be building up years of work experience which large employers are currently looking for, putting you ahead of the graduates.

  3. An apprenticeship provides you with the right career-building skills not only for your role but also to succeed in any workplace so you can get hands-on knowledge and experience while you earn.
